The Marathon kicks off on the Friday with a 5-mile run along the farm tracks and footpaths. While the runners are off aiming for their personal best and admiring the grounds of Colworth Park, the catering and events team will be busy cooking a BBQ for the spectators. Once runners have finished the 5-mile race, they will be able to purchase from the BBQ. This year, the catering and events team will be providing runners and spectators with a popular Burger Bar offering Pork & Chorizo, Lamb & Coriander, Chicken, to the more traditional Beef Burger. There will be a vegetarian option of a Bean Burger. A range of toppings will be available from Bacon, Halloumi, Cheddar, Jalapenos, plus a variety of sauces and not forgetting the kids, they will be serving up hot dogs.
Day 2 consists of an 8.1 miles race, again this will be along the farm tracks and footpaths. Those taking part on the Friday and Saturday – this will bring them up to a total of 13 miles at the finish line, equivalent to half a marathon! Once again, the Colworth Park Conference & Events Team will be making a range of sandwiches & baguettes with a variety of fillings to purchase – enough to cater for over 200 runners and spectators!
Bread is a good source of carbohydrate; the nutrients are absorbed slowly providing energy for hours. It is also low in sugar and fat and is a good source of fibre.
The final day consists of a half marathon, so for those who have taken part in Friday and Saturday’s races, once over the finish line they will have ran 26 miles - a complete marathon! For the last day, the catering & events team will be baking Jacket Potatoes with a selection of fillings such as: Beef Chill Con Carne, Chicken Curry and the classic Cheese & Beans!
Jacket potatoes are a good source of fiber, potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6. They virtually have no fat which helps lower the amount of cholesterol in the blood, reducing the risk of a heart disease.
